A social scientist by training, Professor Zulu holds a PHD from the University of Natal
and has published
extensively in the fields of
politics and sociology both
nationally and internationally.
He is the Director of the
Maurice Webb Race
Relations Unit at the
University of KwaZulu-Natal
and sits on the Board of the
Human Sciences Research
Council.
He has been a member of
the ontifical Academy of
Social ciences, Vatican
City Rome, since 1994.
Prof Paulus Zulu received a
Living Legend Award
(Academic) in 2011 from the
Ethekwini Municipality.

Felicity is an educationist at
heart. She holds a BA in
English and Psychology and
a Senior Teachers’ Diploma
from Stellenbosch
University, a BA Honours in
English from the University
of Orange Free State and a
Diploma in Specialised
Education from UNISA.
She has taught for 35 years,
31 of which have been at
schools for LSEN (Learners
with Special Education
Needs).
She has experience in
teaching children with
different disabilities, having
taught at Dr Bohmer Pre
Vocational School, H S van
der Walt Childcare School
and Open Air School for
children with physical
disabilities including those
who have visual impairments
and are hard of hearing. She
was an HOD of Languages
at H.S Van Der Walt School
in Paarl and principal of
Open Air School from 1998
- 2011.
She served as a
Superintendent of Education
(Management) in the North
Durban Region of the KZN
Department of Education
from 1997 – 1998.
Felicity served on the LSEN
(Learners with Special
Education Needs)
Management Forum from
2000 -2002 and chaired the
Forum in 2004.
She also sat on the Board
of the Ikhwezi Community
College of Education from
2002-2008 and the KZN Examination Board until

In 2010 she was honoured
with a Paul Harris Award
(Rotary’s highest award) in recognition of her dedication

Sifiso was the first disabled
black chartered accountant
in KwaZulu Natal.
He obtained his Commerce
degree from the University
of Natal in Pietermaritzburg.
When he had completed his
articles he worked at KPMG
as an Audit Manager.
After working at KPMG for
a few years, he joined Rand Merchant Bank as a Credit
Analyst for the Mining and
Resources’ structured
finance and project finance
teams. He was regarded as
a top analyst and was
appointed as a team leader
for the Mining and
Resources Credit Team and
as a member of the Portfolio
Maintenance Review Credit
Committee.
He was involved in a number
of transactions. He worked
on total structured, project
finance and private equity
transactions worth well over
R50 billion.
In 2008 he left Rand
Merchant Bank and founded
Sotobe which is an
investment holding and
advisory business.
He is a member of The
South African Institute of
Chartered Accountants
(SAICA), The Association
of Black Securities and

An Information Technology
specialist - Bongani Shezi
has developed various skills
and competencies having
worked for various
companies in the private
sector as well as in
government. Armed with a
Bachelor of Commerce from
the University of
Witwatersrand and a
postgraduate Diploma in
Business Management from
the University of KwaZulu-
Natal, he has held several
positions in the KZN
Provincial Treasury –
helping him to gain more
practical skills in various
facets of financial
management, human
resources and corporate
services in addition to his
already known strength in
information technology and
systems development. A soft spoken man, Mr Shezi
also spent some time
working for Durban based
Lever Brothers as a Senior
Computer Programmer
before joining the Mobius
Group then Enterprise
Foods in Johannesburg.
After the 1994 elections, he
became an Analyst
Programmer in the
Swaziland Government’s
Department of Finance –
and a year later he returned
to South Africa to seize the
offer from the country’s
electricity utility giant, Eskom
as their Systems Analyst.
His next career move was
in 2002 when he was
appointed manager for
Support & Inter-linked
Financial Systems in the
KZN Provincial Treasury. There he rose to the position
of General Manager before
joining DED as Senior
General Manager for
Administration in 2008.
Mr Shezi enjoys travelling
and outdoor activities when
not tied up with his work
which is very demanding. |
Guy Vezi started freelancing
for Ilanga Newspaper whilst
at school in the late 60s. This culminated in a permanent
position by 1979.
He helped start-up the
religious news section of
Ilanga News called
eZamabandla.
His writing skills were honed
by in-house training and the
experiences of time. Guy
has served in various
capacities including that of
News Editor, sub Editor,
Religious News Editor and
currently, the Business
Editor of UMAFRIKA
(a weekly IsiZulu tabloid).
He has freelanced for
magazines like Bona, Drum
(as a photo-journalist) and
also co-founded the
eThekwini Municipal
Newspaper, iMetro Yethu
(a predecessor to
eZaseGagasini) which he
ran for two years.
Guy's vast experience in
journalism spans about 34
years, but he took a break
between 1985 and 1992
working as a Public
Relations Officer at the
Urban Foundation, a stint at
the Black Management
Forum (BMF) in KwaZulu-
Natal and then joining the
Housing Division of Stocks
and Stocks.
He has previously served on
the board of UKUSA
(a Community Arts
Programme and a Bridging
Programme for Music
founded by Dr Elizabeth
Oehrle at the University of
KwaZulu-Natal). |
