Wathinta Bafazi KZN Impumelelo Inclusive Women In ICT Global Research Institute will celebrate International Women’s week between the 6th and the 12th of March 2017 at the Inanda Impumelelo Disability Empowerment Multimedia Centre in Durban. The period will see the launching of the KZN Women Data Power 61 to mark the 61 anniversary of women’s march held back in 09 August 1956, where more than 20 000 women marched to the Union Buildings to protest against the extension of Pass laws to women.
The Impumelelo organization of the disabled rural community projects in partnership with Thither Nank’ Uzukwa Community projects, UKZN, DUT, religious leaders, Department of Education, the Ethekwini Municipality, ICT work groups, the Department of Economic Development and Social Development note that though we live in the age of democracy, women with disabilities often lack behind in ICT empowerment platforms and hence a need to create a global ICT Equity platform allowing all women to benefi t from empowerment schemes in ICT sector.
The Women Data Power 61 aims to promote the importance of E-skills amongst women, improving the research facilities to advance women in ICT skills, promote research innovations, advance public sector leadership in empowering women in ICT, deliberate on cultural barriers on advancement of women, robotics software engineering, future science platforms empowering women, super computing systems and cybercrime, ICT and Health and diversity and inclusion for business growth.
The organization is inviting exhibitors from all sectors in public sector and private sector. They hope to assist sixty one women with disabilities with assistive devices, bursaries for disabled women doing ICT studies, engineering and business studies for entrepreneurship at universities and TVET colleges.
