Please help me be the voice and represent South Africa proudly in October at Miss Wheelchair World 2022.
My story started when I called Miss Wheelchair World and asked how can I enter, little did I know that the universe heard me. I was crowned the winner of Miss Wheelchair South Africa on 2nd December 2021. My title is the voice of change, to bring change, to see change, for a person with disability to take their rightful spot in society and in the work space. We are humans who also want to be equally acknowled, loved and respected.
I was born with spinal muscular atrophy, a genetic condition that affects nerves and makes my muscles weak. And at the age of 8 years old, I had my first wheelchair. My favourite two quotes are: “Start unknown and finish unforgettable” by Misty Copeland and “Be the change you want to see in the world” by Mahatma Gandhi. My challenges are many but my purpose is to speak up, inspire and trust that God has a plan for me.
The funds raised will be used for me and my assistant to travel from Springbok in the Northern Cape to an international airport and flights to Mexico, where Miss Wheelchair World is being held. I must admit that we are nervous as neither of us have travelled before.
I have enjoyed creating and raising an awareness about universal access in public spaces, promoting inclusivity and giving motivational talks at schools on – “not letting your impairment define you and your family”.
I remain positive with the unwavering support that I will bring back the Miss Wheelchair World title to South Africa. Thank you for your kind donation and joining me on the journey of leaving no one behind – all lives matter.
