Fundraiser changes date & embraces innovation

Update your calendars! Casual Day, South Africa’s favourite fundraising and awareness campaign for Persons with Disabilities has moved to 3 December 2020. In order tomitigate the impact of the Coronavirus pandemic and to stand in solidarity with International Day for Persons with Disabilities, supporters can look forward to a Casual Day that may be a little bit different, but with renewed focus and an even greater impact.

Nothing we do on our own can ever be as valuable as the things we do together; and therefore the owner of the Casual Day Project, the National Council of and for Persons with Disabilities (NCPD), is ecstatic to announce that this year we are collaborating with Disney Africa’s Mickey and Friends Stay True 2020 campaign to amplify our call to provide further opportunity, mobilise sustainable change and promote the full inclusion of Persons with Disabilities!

“Persons with Disabilities are the hardest hit by the crippling economic and health ramifications of the Coronavirus pandemic, and we are seeing NGOs nationwide struggle to keep their doors open in order to support the most vulnerable in society. For those reasons we realised the need to plan this year’s Casual Day carefully and to take fast, innovative action.” says Therina Wentzel du-Toit, National Director of the NCPD.

In celebration of the Casual Day’s theme, Disney Africa’s Mickey and Friends Stay True retail campaign sees Mickey, Minnie, Daisy, Donald, Goofy and Pluto celebrating all things friendship across leading retailers nationwide this Summer. The public will be able to visit select participating retailers from 1 October to 3 December 2020 where they will be able to get their hands on a special Mickey Mouse-inspired Casual Day sticker, for a donation of R20. Supporters will also be able to get their stickers from local NGO organisations, schools and participating companies. This year you can alsopurchase a digital sticker online, giving everyone the opportunity to showcase their pledge and support even while social distancing. In addition, on Casual Day, the public are requested to add their own Mickey and Friends-inspired looks to their outfits – bows, polka dots, and more – there is no limit to the possibilities.

“We are thrilled to be lending our support to Casual Day 2020. Mickey and his Friends embody the hallmarks of true friendship and standing side by side each other, ” says Luke Roberts, General Manager for Consumer Products, Games and Publishing for The Walt Disney Company Africa. “This year we are also excited to working with our retail partners across the country to amplify and support this worthy cause.”
