The National Council of and for Persons with Disabilities (NCPD) proudly celebrated the 12th
anniversary of their Nappy Run campaign at the Johannesburg Zoo, where families turned up in numbers.

In a solidarity showcase for this campaign, a surge of over four hundred people was recorded as participants collected their medals after finishing the zoo trail’s 5-kilometer route. Last year, the number of medal winners was just below 200.

It was a fun day where family members from young to old ran, walked, or wheeled with their loved ones in support of a campaign that aims to raise and collect nappies for children and adults.

“Children (and adults) with disabilities often have a high need for nappies through childhood and beyond, requiring the use of nappies into their teen and adult years. “Without a nappy, children are often denied dignity, comfort, and freedom of movement, and their health is compromised,” said Therina Wentzel, the National Director at the National Council of and for Persons with Disabilities.

“A high attendance like this shows the growth and awareness of the campaign, and we are grateful to every person who has made an effort to join us.”
