Marking International Day of Person’s with Disabilities on the 3 December 2021 under the theme “Leadership and participation of persons with disabilities towards an inclusive, accessible and Sustainable Post – COVID 19 World”
In his capacity as a global disability rights activist and founder of the Nkosinathi Ndlovu Foundation, Ndlovu is seeking to join forces with international agencies, Disabled Peoples Organisations (DPO’s), UN, governments, private sectors, and world’s leaders, to establish the COVID-19 DISABILITY LEADERS RESPONSE FUND, with the goals of mobilizing at least $1.3 Billion to boost global humanitarian system and providing funds to disability original projects focusing on implementing the United Nations Conventions on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD) and the Global Goals for Sustainable Development (SDGs) with a clear connection to combating COVID- 19.
With a grant from the National Lottery Commission (NLC), the Nkosinathi Ndlovu Foundation advocated for a global and national strategy to promote the inclusion of person’s with disabilities, their families and the most vulnerable in society in implementation sustainability of the development of poverty eradication program by providing solid services that would move people’s with disabilities from dependency to indepedence.
The goals is to bring these programs in line with (UNCRPD) article 28 (Adequate standard of living and social protection) and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 1 (No Poverty).
“Persons with Disabilities often find it tough to access services, education, or employment opportunities. As a result, they are less likely to participate in the economy, which in turn drives them to poverty. The global Covid – 19 crisis is worsening these inequalities and exposing the deep fault lines of exclusion that already exist. Without an inclusive approach to recovery, one which considers the disproportionate impact that Covid- 19 has on Persons with disabilitie, this population is at risk of being left behind” said Ndlovu.
