Pretoria East, South Africa – The Miss, Mr, and Mrs Deaf South Africa (MDSA) organisation culminated a week of inspiring events with a spectacular crowning gala at Monte de Dios on October 12, 2024. The celebration showcased the talents and achievements of the Deaf community in South Africa.

The week-long festivities began on October 7 with a charity drive at the Trans Oranje School for the Deaf, emphasising MDSA’s commitment to community service. Finalists engaged in various activities, including a visit to a strawberry farm in Brits and an exciting day at Gold Reef City, fostering bonds among participants.

Throughout the event, finalists enjoyed accommodations at the Willows Boutique Hotel and transportation provided by Eljosa Bus. Local restaurants, including Doppio Zero, Salamander Restaurant, The Grubhouse, and Social Grill, generously sponsored meals. Waves DNA contributed sunglasses and hats, while Monate Chocolate treated participants to delicious confections.

The gala evening marked the pinnacle of the week, celebrating the contestants’ accomplishments and crowning new titleholders. Andile Maseko was named the new Ms. Deaf South Africa, succeeding Sylvia Mojanko. Faeem Karodia took the Mr. Deaf South Africa title from Justin Makinson, and Lisa Mzisa was crowned Miss Deaf South Africa, following Monequ Edwards.

Janice Jonker, CEO of MDSA, expressed her enthusiasm: “This event not only highlights the talents of our finalists but also raises awareness of the incredible contributions of the Deaf community in South Africa.”

The gala’s success underscored MDSA’s mission to empower and celebrate Deaf individuals, providing a platform for their voices to be heard and their achievements recognised.
