“ We are so proud to provide access to a plenary like this as one of our focus areas to include a diversity of voices in the media space,” said Martin Hiller, Portfolio Director of the host of Fame Week, Reed Exhibitions (RX) Africa, and he is responsible for content + creative for travel, tourism and creative industries.

RX is a global advocate of inclusion and diversity (I&D) and in 2021, they named Hiller as their inclusion and diversity champion.

Various professionals that are in the disability media advocacy space will be panellists to discuss the topic, “Shedding Light on Disability Infront of and Behind the Camera in the Film and TV Industry”.

The topic will touch on various challenges and good practises in the media space to analyse the following synopsis;

Inclusion and representation in the film and TV industry have come a long way, but there is still much work to be done, especially concerning disability representation. This talk aims to highlight the importance of bringing authentic and diverse portrayals of disability to both the screen and the behind-the-scenes aspects of filmmaking, as well as making our industry more accessible to audiences, thereby broadening our reach. By exploring the challenges faced by disabled individuals in the industry, we can foster a more inclusive and empowering environment. We will discuss the impact of accurate disability representation on audiences, dispel misconceptions, and share successful examples of inclusive productions. Let’s collectively strive to create a film and TV landscape where disability is portrayed sensitively and inclusively, both on-screen and off-screen, allowing for more meaningful stories and diverse perspectives to emerge.
